The extension of the term of nuclear power plants by 20 years would lead to lower electricity prices. On one side, the federal government committed to the climate conference in Copenhagen in 2009, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 compared to 1990 by 40 percent. Other industrialized countries, especially the emerging economies were more cautious here. A recent report by the Government shows how this reduction target is to be realized. Some of the assumptions are very optimistic. Especially doubtful future, the energy efficiency per year increased by 2.5 percent. The rate of increase in the last decades was only at 1.7 percent, despite all the effort.
